A classic scene from the Ramayana, which the most celebrated epic poem in South and Southeast Asia. It tells the journey of prince Rama, from his banishment from the kingdom of Ayodhya, to his triumphant return. Denied the throne on the eve of his coronation, Rama finds himself exiled to the forest for 14 years, accompanied by his devoted wife and brother, Sita and Lakshmana. This scene includes four separate models that are typically displayed together. It depicts ‘Ram Darbar’, or the coronation of Rama after his defeat of Ravana. Rama’s wife, Sita, is standing to his left, Lakshmana his brother standing by his right. Hanuman, the monkey-god, is touching Rama’s feet.
